Regina…CIPS Saskatchewan, the provincial association for IT professionals, today announced that Derek Burt won the 2009 – 2010 Marilyn Harris IT Professionalism Award. Burt is Manager of Application Development for ISM Canada in Regina.

“Last week was IT Professionalism Week across Canada, and we in Saskatchewan are really proud that one of our own has won this prestigious award,” said Dean Hartley, president of CIPS Saskatchewan. “Derek Burt has served on the Board of Directors and actively promoted the I.S.P. designation for many years, and this recognition of his work is well-deserved.”

The Marilyn Harris IT Professionalism Award recognizes a certified CIPS member who best exemplifies the true value of the I.S.P., which is the professional designation obtained and held by IT professionals across Canada. In Saskatchewan, the I.S.P. designation is regulated by CIPS Saskatchewan, the only provincially legislated professional association for the IT sector.

Since beginning his career, in addition to his work with ISM Canada, Derek Burt has generously donated many volunteer hours in the service of CIPS, including serving in leadership roles on the CIPS Saskatchewan Board of Directors.

“Because the I.S.P. designation demonstrates professional competency and integrity, I am tremendously honoured that my peers have recognized my skills, experience and service through this award,” said Burt. “I encourage all my employees and colleagues to participate in CIPS, whether by attending events, becoming a member, or volunteering as a leader within the organization. Since it strives to further the interests of our profession, CIPS offers great opportunities for education, networking, and career development.”

CIPS Saskatchewan is a provincial association that advances and administers the Information Systems Professional of Canada (I.S.P.) Certification, a professional designation for those working in the Information Technology industry in Saskatchewan.

In addition to certifying qualified IT professionals, CIPS Saskatchewan offers networking opportunities and serves as a voice to governments on IT issues that affect the public, the profession and the industry.
